The Centers for Living and Rehabilitation Earns State’s Nursing Home Quality Award

BENNINGTON, VT—December 14, 2018—Southwestern Vermont Health Care’s (SVHC) Centers for Living and Rehabilitation (CLR), a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility in Bennington, recently earned Vermont’s most prestigious recognition, the Nursing Home Quality Award.

“CLR is a large and very busy skilled nursing center, but we still take the time to care for each patient individually,” said Suzanne Anair, the facility’s administrator. “To have the personalized care this tremendous staff provides recognized in this very special way is a highlight of my career.”

The award was presented by the Commissioner Director of the State Unit on Aging Monica Caserta Hutt during the Vermont Health Care Association Annual Convention & Trade Show at Killington Grand Resort in September. Four other facilities were similarly recognized.

All award honorees must meet three major criteria: (1) 12 months with zero deficiencies, self-reportable events, or substantiated complaints; (2) an excellent percentage of positive responses to resident satisfaction surveys as compared to other skilled nursing facilities in the state; and (3) participation in at least one National Health Care Association quality initiative.

A financial award of $42,000 accompanies the honor. Funds are meant to be dedicated to enhancing amenities or the patient and resident experience.

“CLR’s success can be attributed to the facility’s leadership and a truly dedicated team of compassionate professionals caring for patients and residents each day,” said Thomas A. Dee, FACHE, SVHC’s president and CEO. “I am inspired by their work to go above and beyond what is expected and to use their knowledge and resources to improve patient outcomes and satisfaction.”

In addition to the Nursing Home Quality Award, CLR earned a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and a deficiency-free survey from Vermont regulators in 2017.

CLR is located at 160 Hospital Drive in Bennington. It shares a campus with Southwestern Vermont Medical Center and provides short-term rehabilitation, respite care, long-term care, and palliative and hospice care.
