Infectious Disease

Infectious diseases present both patients and caregivers with some unique challenges. At SVMC we diagnose and treat adults with illnesses resulting from a range of infections, including those caused by viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites. We work with your primary care provider to create a seamless care plan based on the best medical practices.

SVMC’s Infectious Disease department specializes in the treatment and management of infectious illnesses including MRSA, Lyme, Clostridium-Difficile (C-Diff), and HIV as well as chronic, wound, and travel-related infections. Through the use of vaccines, antibiotics, and other treatments, we create a personalized treatment plan to meet your specific care needs.

SVMC Infectious Disease is experienced in caring for a variety of types of non-healing wounds. From diabetic foot ulcers and soft-tissue infections to surgical wounds and acute or chronic wounds, we work with a team of care providers to determine the best approach to your treatment. Treatment options include debridement, antibiotics, compression dressings, and more.

Some skin, bone, joint, and heart valve infections are best treated with intravenous antibiotic drugs. SVMC’s Infectious Disease department will work with you to set up a treatment schedule that enables you to receive the antibiotic you need in a timely and appropriate manner.

SVMC’s Infectious Disease staff is committed to delivering care in a supportive and compassionate manner. We offer advice on a full range of HIV management topics including antiretroviral decisions, adherence, new drugs and diagnostic testing, co-infection management, drug interactions, prevention, and more.

The Infectious Disease department also provides information related to infection prevention and vaccines for travelers going abroad. Our practice is a registered yellow fever vaccination center. Visit CDC.gov for more information.

SVMC’s infectious disease specialists incorporate a number of innovative approaches in treating virological and bacterial diseases. Working closely with your other care providers, we will tailor a treatment and management plan that considers your risk factors, other medical issues, and psychological needs. Our goal is to provide you with the very best in effective and compassionate care.

Whether you were admitted to the hospital for an infectious disease or an infectious disease is just one small part of your condition, our infectious disease specialist will visit you in the hospital to ensure you are receiving the proper treatment for every aspect of your condition.
