SVMC Endocrin-ology Hires Physician

BENNINGTON, VT—March 24, 2020—Amy E. Freeth, MD, will resume endocrinology services at SVMC in March 2020. The practice, known as SVMC Endocrinology, is a part of Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC) and Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC). It replaces the Bennington Osteoporosis Center, where Dr. David Gorson had provided similar services to the community until his retirement in 2019. With the appointment, Dr. Freeth joins Dartmouth-Hitchcock Putnam Physicians.

Dr. Freeth completed a fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at the University of Vermont, then known as Fletcher Allen Healthcare. She completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, NY, which is a major teaching affiliate of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City, where she served as chief resident in 2002. She received her medical degree from the from State University of New York (SUNY) Health Science Center at Syracuse. Before medical school, earned an associate’s degree in Medical Radiography’s College of Health Related Professions and a bachelor’s degree in biology at SUNY Albany.

Dr. Freeth worked in the Endocrinology Department at Bassett Healthcare from 2004 – 2019 and as the medical director of the Diabetes Management Program from 2010 – 2017. She is board certified by both the American Board of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism and the American Board of Internal Medicine.

SVMC Endocrinology provides care for diabetes, insulin pump therapy, continuous glucose monitoring, thyroid diseases, metabolic syndrome and disorders, nutritional wellness, osteoporosis, and adrenal and pituitary disorders.
