SVHC Welcomes Brian M. Barefoot to Board of Trustees

BENNINGTON, VT—October 30, 2019—Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC) has announced the appointment of Brian M. Barefoot to its Board of Trustees.

“Quality health care is among the most important components of a thriving community. It requires bright, capable leaders with varied backgrounds and perspectives,” said Tommy Harmon, the board chair. “We are grateful that Brian has these important leadership qualities and has agreed to join SVHC in its mission to provide exceptional care.”

Brian Barefoot’s background includes education, financial management, healthcare investment banking, and investment management. He currently serves on the Investment Committee of Blue Cross, Blue Shield of Massachusetts; as vice chair of the Cleveland Clinic Indian River Foundation in Vero Beach, FL; as a trustee of Burr and Burton Academy; and as President of the Board of Governors of Ekwanok Country Club. Brian and his wife Pam divide time between Dorset, VT; Vero Beach, FL; and Boston, MA.

“I am pleased to join the Board of SVHC and look forward to contributing in ways that will help the hospital improve the services provided to the residents of southwestern Vermont,” Barefoot said.

“I am delighted to add Brian, with his valuable skills and dedication, to the SVHC board of trustees,” said Thomas A. Dee, FACHE, SVHC’s president and CEO. “He understands SVHC’s crucial role in the community and will make important contributions.”

Board members are nominated by the board’s Governance Committee and voted on by the entire board. In selecting new SVHC board members, the nominating committee looks for candidates who exemplify SVHC's values, can be counted on to actively participate in board work, and have leadership capabilities. SVHC looks for candidates who represent the communities the health system serves and have special expertise in fulfilling board duties.
