SVMC Orthopedics Welcomes Michaela M. Schneiderbauer, MD, MBA, and Ivette Guttmann, MD

Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC)—a part of Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC)—is pleased to announce that Orthopedic Surgeon Michaela M. Schneiderbauer, MD, MBA, and Sports Medicine Physician Ivette Guttmann, MD, have joined SVMC Orthopedics and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Putnam Physicians.

"Dr. Schneiderbauer brings a wealth of academic and clinical experience to our already highly regarded team of surgeons and sports medicine specialists," said Trey Dobson, chief medical officer for SVMC and medical director for the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Putnam Physicians. "And Dr. Guttmann is both an exceptional sports medicine physician and a record-setting athlete. Her clinical and athletic experience make her an excellent fit for treating athletes at all levels."

Dr. Schneiderbauer earned her medical degree at Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich, Germany, and the Harvard Medical School Program for Medical Education in Massachusetts. She completed residency training at Basel University Hospital in Switzerland. In addition, she completed fellowships in joint replacement surgery and training in orthopedic oncology with the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital in Florida.

In addition to her medical education and training, Dr. Schneiderbauer is a Certified Professional Coach with International Coach Federation-accredited University of Miami Certified Professional Coach Program. She was the valedictorian of the University of Miami’s MBA in Health Sector Management and Policy in 2014. She is board certified by American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

"Michaela is a talented orthopedic surgeon, specializing in joint replacements, who could be practicing in any market worldwide. We are excited that she will be joining our SVMC team to provide care for this region," Dobson added.

Since 2016, Dr. Schneiderbauer has worked as an associate professor of Clinical Orthopaedics at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in Florida. She was an assistant professor at the same institution since 2011.

"This corner of Vermont is similar to my home in Germany,” said Dr. Schneiderbauer. “I look forward to joining the exceptional team at SVMC Orthopedics and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Putnam Physicians, getting to know my patients, and skiing the Green Mountains."

Dr. Guttmann earned her medical degree at Universidad Autonoma de Centro America in Costa Rica and completed the pediatrics residency training program at San Juan City Hospital in Puerto Rico in 2012. In addition, she completed fellowship training in Primary Care Sports Medicine at Albany Medical Center in New York in 2013. She earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from Florida State University and an associate’s degree from Miami-Dade Community College in 1994. She is board certified by the American Board for both Pediatrics and Primary Care Sports Medicine.

In addition, Dr. Guttmann played professionally as a record-breaking quarterback for the Independent Women’s Football League Orlando Starz and was captain of the Orlando Mayhem, 2001 - 2004. At the amateur level, she has participated in adventure races, basketball, mountain and road cycling, snowboarding, tennis, and volleyball. She was the team physician at the University of Miami Athletic Department and has provided medical coverage for the New York Giants training camp in Albany, NY. She has also provided medical coverage for Siena College, Lake Placid Ironman, Florida Ironman, and a multitude of other Triathlons.

"I am very happy to join this accomplished team in beautiful Vermont," said Dr. Guttmann. "I look forward to meeting patients who can benefit from my combination of medical knowledge and athletic experience."

Both practice at SVMC Orthopedics in Bennington and at SVMC Northshire Campus in Manchester Center. Dr. Guttmann will also take appointments at Twin Rivers Medical in Hoosick Falls, NY. Both are accepting new patients.

They join board-certified and fellowship-trained surgeons Suk Namkoong, MD; Matthew Nofziger, MD; and James Whittum, MD; and sports medicine physician Paul Donovan, DO, along with several associate providers.
