Spring Cleaning for Your Medicine Cabinet

If your medicine cabinet is full of expired medications or drugs you no longer use, you won’t want to miss the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

An annual event sponsored by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Take Back Day provides a free, safe and convenient way to dispose of unused or expired medications—no questions asked.

According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, most misused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, unused or expired drugs can hurt people, pets and the environment if they are lost, stolen or misused.

To protect your family, friends and community, check your medicine cabinet for any of the following expired or unused prescription or over-the-counter items:

  • Capsules
  • Creams
  • Inhalers
  • Non-aerosol sprays
  • Ointments
  • Patches
  • Pills
  • Vials
  • Vape pens and e-cigarette devices with the batteries removed
  • Pet medications

NOTE: Liquids must be in their original container.
