Northshire Campus Brings Specialty Care Closer to Patients

BENNINGTON, VT—March 29, 2019—Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC) Northshire Campus in Manchester, VT, is now offering appointments with several specialists, including a cardiologist and orthopedic surgeons. Expanding the availability of appointments closer to patients’ homes makes receiving specialty care more convenient for Northshire residents.

“With family medicine, pediatrics, and these new specialties all right here, a family could conceivably receive all of their care under this one roof,” said Robert Schwartz, MD, SVMC Northshire Campus’s medical director and family medicine physician. “We think it is pretty special for a community this size to have that range of services available so close by.”

Cardiologist Paul Wangenheim, MD, D.MH, MS, FACC, is certified in both Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He sees patients at SVMC Northshire Campus in Manchester, VT, 1 day a week. Appointments may be scheduled through the SVMC Cardiology office at 802-442-0800.

Orthopedic Surgeons Matthew Nofziger, MD, and Michaela M. Schneiderbauer, MD, MBA, practice in Bennington and at SVMC Northshire Campus. Both are accepting new patients. They offer preventive and non-surgical treatments, minimally invasive surgery, and surgery for sports injuries, painful joints, and complicated fractures. They execute complete joint replacements, rotator cuff repair, and surgeries on hands, knees, wrists, feet, elbows and ankles.  Patients can call 802-442-6314 to make an appointment.

SVMC Northshire ExpressCare, a convenient walk-in clinic, has been serving both patients of the practice and visitors since the summer of 2017. At ExpressCare, Arlene Law, FNP, and others provide care for illnesses and injuries, including coughs, colds, and flu; eye and ear infections; pulled and strained muscles; cuts and scrapes; bites, stings, and rashes; stomach aches; and other conditions. Patients experiencing chest pain, however, are directed to go directly to the nearest Emergency Department. It is open 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday. No appointment is necessary.

Physical Therapy has been available at the Northshire Campus since 2016. Holly McKenzie, DPT, is the primary physical therapist at the Northshire Campus and the physical therapy team leader for SVMC. McKenzie sees patients at the Northshire Campus 3 days a week. To make an appointment for physical therapy at SVMC Northshire Campus, call 802-447-5140.

Primary Care for patients of all ages is provided by family medicine physicians, including Dr. Robert Schwartz and Dr. Natacha Jager, and Family Nurse Practitioner Carolyn Goodwin, FNP. X-Ray and blood draw services are available, as well.

In addition, Dr. Lynn Mann provides pediatrics care at SVMC Northshire Campus. She provides consultation regarding child development, newborn care, well child and adolescent care, acute illness visits, immunizations, asthma management, ADHD, weight management and nutrition, contraceptive management, and behavioral health. To make an appointment with Dr. Mann at SVMC Northshire Campus, call 802-362-4440.

“We know that Northshire residents are busy people who are deeply engaged in their families and communities,” Schwartz said. “For many patients—especially those receiving cardiology or orthopedic care—this change could cut travel time by 30 minutes or more each way. That’s time patients can spend doing the things they love.”

SVMC Northshire Campus has achieved recognition for providing personalized, effective, and efficient primary care required as a part of its designation as Patient Centered Medical Homes by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). Patients may access several services not often available in doctor’s offices, including behavioral health services, diabetes education, and nutrition counseling, among others.

All of these services are available at SVMC Northshire Campus located at 5957 Main Street, Route 7A, in Manchester Center, VT. Patients may call 802-362-4440 for additional information.
