Meeting the Needs of Children with Disabilities

Being a parent or caregiver to a child with special needs is filled with challenges. Trying to obtain the durable medical equipment (DME) they need doesn’t have to be one of them.

SVMC Outpatient Rehabilitation services can help.

Based in Bennington, SVMC Outpatient Rehabilitation is poised to help connect families with the resources and DME they need to help their child actively engage in daily living and without need to drive hours to obtain it.

DME we can help with includes:

  • Manual and power wheelchairs
  • Car seats
  • Back chairs
  • Specialized bed lifts
  • Hoyer lifts
  • Crutches
  • Walkers
  • Hearing aids

Beyond tangible equipment, we are here to help families understand their rights when it comes to obtaining what their child needs. We work with and advocate for families as they navigate the sometimes daunting and often confusing world of insurance claims and processing.

In addition, we can provide essential evaluations for every child in the setting that’s most natural for them and easiest for the family to coordinate. From home and school to daycare or even here on SVMC campus, we are here to make the process as painless and positive as possible for all.

If you have questions about the services and equipment your child is entitled to, email Abigail.Schuck@svhealthcare.org.

School staff and other care providers looking to advocate for a child are also welcome to reach out.
