Healthier Halloween Ideas
Most parents and caregivers are concerned with the amount of added sugars their children consume, especially on Halloween. This is a great time to think of some healthier items to pass out to the costumed cuties who knock at your door. Here are some ideas:
Lower sugar items. Mini water bottles, natural fruit leather, 100% juice boxes, yogurt-covered raisins; or bags of popcorn are yummy and healthier than typical Halloween treats.
School supplies. For around the same cost as candy, you can pass out pencils, mini notebooks, stickers, or erasers. You’ll be helping kids thrive in their academic or creative activities.
Things to wear. Halloween isn’t just about candy. It’s also about dressing up. So, try handing out temporary tattoos, spider rings, or snap bracelets.
Safety items. On Halloween, safety is at the forefront of my mind. There are lots of small fun items that can help the trick-or-treaters in your neighborhood stay visible and safe. Look for mini glow sticks, mini flashlights, or whistles to pass out to kids.
Things to play with. Bouncy balls; paddle games; sticky hands; bubbles; crafting items, like Wikki sticks; cardboard gliders; or mini containers of play clay all engage kids’ creativity and active nature.
There are so many options that will come as a welcome surprise to the kiddos and their parents and also support their health and well-being.
