SVMC Deerfield Valley Campus Receives ACT 250 Permit to Renovate and Expand

Public Invited to a Hardhat Tour Fundraiser Scheduled for July 19

WILMINGTON, VT—May 17, 2019—Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC) has obtained an Act 250 permit from Vermont’s Natural Resources Board authorizing a planned renovation and expansion of its Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC) Deerfield Valley Campus, a family medicine practice, which provides primary care for patients of all ages.

“This Act 250 permit allows us to move forward on this much-anticipated project,” said Thomas A. Dee, FACHE, SVHC’s president and CEO. “We are excited to begin upgrading SVMC Deerfield Valley Campus with state-of-the-art technology and expanded services.”

The renovation will add approximately 2,027 square feet to the building’s current 5,049 square feet. The design maintains current space for patient appointments, lab services, X-ray, and a conference room and education space. In addition, the renovations will allow the integration of new physical therapy services.

Among the most significant advancements that will be a teleMedicine connection, which includes high-definition audio-visual equipment that allows providers at the clinic to communicate in real time with specialists at Dartmouth-Hitchcock’s Connected Care Center in Lebanon, NH. This addition is expected to support providers’ and may eventually allow specialist consultations more conveniently to where patients live.

The renovated building will include eight medical treatment rooms, including standard exam rooms, two for larger patients, one for consults, and one treatment room with an exit to a covered ambulance bay.

Special attention was paid to energy efficiency. The plan indicates an update from conventional bulbs to LEDs for interior and exterior lighting, and the installation of high-efficiency heating and cooling systems. The changes are expected to improve operations and decrease costs.

Both the patient and clinician experience will be improved through thoughtful design elements. Patients will notice an improved flow, both inside the clinic and in the parking lot. A covered drop-off area will improve entering during inclement weather. The waiting room will be redesigned and furnished featuring regional artwork similar to the health system’s other recently renovated spaces. A shared workspace for providers is expected to improve collaboration and facilitate teamwork.

The addition will be built before the current space is renovated. All work will coincide with patient care.

The public is invited to attend a Hardhat Tour Fundraiser scheduled for the evening of Friday, July 19. Those interested should contact foundation@svhealthcare.org or 802-447-5017 to RSVP.
