PODIATRY RESIDENCY

Welcome from the Director

Sarchinob

Welcome and thank you for your interest in the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency Program. Our program, a forefoot with the added rearfoot and ankle certification, was established in 2014 and has developed into a very strong and competitive training experience. We are fortunate to have an impressive array of highly-skilled faculty who are available to work with our residents on many levels. It is my personal goal that our residents graduate from our program with the full ability to master podiatric medical problems and surgical procedures with confidence.

This website should answer most of your questions as a prospective resident. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us. Thank you.

Podiatry Residency Highlights

Southwestern Vermont Medical Center sponsors a comprehensive, fully-integrated, PGY 1-3 Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency Program with the added credential in Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery (PMSR/RRA). The program offers a deep and diverse professional experience in a community hospital in Southwestern Vermont. The program is authorized to train a total of six residents, with two residents in each year of training.

The Southwestern Vermont Medical Podiatry Residency Program is an excellent training ground for podiatry students. We have a wide range of surgical and medical specialties and a level of expertise rarely found in community hospitals.

The Podiatry Residency Training Program is designed as a 36 month training experience with clinical rotations in Vermont, New York and Illinois. Rotations are scheduled largely in a block format with some rotations scheduled in a sequential or case-by-case format. The vast majority of podiatric encounters will be completed in podiatric private offices and clinics. Didactic experiences include weekly lectures, some provided by Western University via Pic-Tel, Grand Rounds on site or via video teleconferencing Journal Club, Tumor Board, and cadaver workshops.

Clerkships

Southwestern Vermont Medical Center participates in the clerkship program through AACP. Clerkship applications can be submitted at www.dpmclerkships.org.
