New Test for Patients with Cardiac Risk Factors

The SVMC Cardiology and Imaging Departments are pleased to introduce a new cardiac test available for patients with cardiac risk factors. The test is called Coronary Artery Calcium Scoring (CACS). It uses an ordinary CT scan to determine the amount of calcium in patients’ coronary arteries. It allows physicians to assess patients’ risk of a heart attack better than ever before.

“This test could have a significant impact on people’s lives,” said Scott Rogge, MD, SVMC’s medical director of Cardiology. “We expect that it may allow those found to be at low risk to potentially discontinue use of statins, for instance. Similarly, it may help patients found to be at high risk make important lifestyle or medication changes.”

For more information or to refer a patient for this test, please call 802-447-5541, option 2.
