BENNINGTON, VT—December 6, 2017— Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC) hosted a sold-out crowd of more than 330 people at the 8th Annual Harvest Ball on September 9 at the Hubbell Homestead in Bennington. The event raised over $225,000.
Dartmouth-Hitchcock was the title sponsor of the event, and Dartmouth-Hitchcock’s President and CEO Dr. Joanne Conroy attended with several members of her leadership team.
At the event the SVHC Foundation presented the 2017 Vision Awards. Brian Cunningham, MD, received the 2017 Health Care Leadership Award, and the Hoyt Family accepted the 2017 Distinguished Community Service Award. The Vision Awards honor recipients for their efforts to advance the health system’s vision of healthier communities.
“I can think of no recipients more deserving of these prestigious awards,” said Tommy Harmon, chair of the SVHC Board of Trustees. “They set the standard for what it means to give generously to improve the lives of others.”
For the Putnam Challenge—a part of the evening’s program where attendees are called upon to emulate the generosity of hospital founders Henry Putnam, Sr., and Henry Putnam, Jr.—attendees heard from Palliative Care Specialists Dr. Kathy Kirkland, interim section chief of Palliative Care, Dartmouth-Hitchcock and associate professor of medicine at The Dartmouth Institute, and Dr. Allen Hutcheson, medical director of Supportive Care Services at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in addition to palliative care supporter Mrs. Constance West. Attendees answered the challenge with a total of $200,000 for SVMC’s palliative care program.
“It’s through extraordinary partnerships—like the ones with Dartmouth-Hitchcock, with our Vision Award honorees, and with patients themselves—that we are able to accomplish our mission,” said Thomas A. Dee, president and CEO of SVHC. “This event celebrates those important relationships and renews our commitment to exceptional care and comfort for the people we serve.”
The event was made possible through generous support of many donors and sponsors. The SVHC Foundation’s next gala fundraising event is the Centennial Gala, which will be held on the evening of June 9, 2018 at the Hubbell Homestead in Bennington, VT.
