Southwestern Vermont Health Care has joined the national #GivingTuesday movement to inspire the advancement of our community’s healthcare priorities. On Tuesday, December 3, we ask you to join your neighbors in a show of support for SVHC.
This #GivingTuesday, we aim to raise $5,000 towards new 3D mammography technology.
Our #GivingTuesday Reason
"One in eight U.S. women will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime," says Themarge Small, MD, FACOG, of SVMC OB/GYN. "This technology will help us identify more cancers sooner and speed lifesaving treatment."
When used for breast cancer screening, 3D mammography:
- Increases the number of cancers detected, especially for early and small cancers and those with dense breast tissue
- Provides both standard two-dimensional and new three-dimensional images.
- Fewer false positives and possibly fewer callbacks over time.
With donor support, SVMC will purchase two 3D mammography machines.
