TREK for Health 2008
How to be a Trekker and Earn Prizes
- Each team member needs to choose a step goal, click here for Step Goal Setting Tips, and tell their captain by March 28th.
- Your captain will deliver your pedometer to you between April 4 and April 8.
- Complete your Pre-walk Survey and give to your captain when you get your pedometer. Why complete this survey? Trek is grant funded by the Vermont Blueprint for Health. In order to continue we need to measure this program.
- Once you get your pedometer read the instructions and try it out. It works best when worn on your waistband.
- Please treat your pedometer carefully. We do not have the funding to replace them.
- Starting on Sunday, April 13, through Saturday, June 6, wear your pedometer every day of the 8-Week Trek Challenge. Record your step total at the end of each day on your Step Tracking Sheet. Add in the space provided any other kinds of physical activity when you did not wear your pedometer (such as swimming for 30 minutes) and convert that to steps using the Step Conversion Chart.
- Each Tuesday morning, starting on April 22 by 10 am please report your weekly step total (including any other activity) to your team captain. Please e-mail your captain if possible and give them the Week number with just your total step count for that week.
- Be truthful about your numbers.
- Please try to attend the Kick-Off Walk on April 13 and the other events and workshops. Please call (802) 447-5076 to RSVP to the Kick-Off Walk.
- At the end of the 8-weeks please complete the Post-Walk Survey and give it to your captain.
- Enjoy yourself and your team mates!
Awards and Prizes
The goal of Trek for Health is to help us all get more active. We will therefore make awards based the average increase in steps over the 8 weeks.
- All participants will receive a pedometer as long as supplies last.
- At the end of the 8-Week Challenge, each teammate who completes the Challenge (i.e. who has participated and reported their steps over all the 8-weeks) will receive a free T-shirt. Your captain will deliver your T-shirt.
- Prizes varying from gift certificates for sneakers, massages, reflector bands, pedometer leashes and more will be awarded to:
- Top 2 Teams in the four age categories based on the greatest increased number of steps from week 1 to 8.
- Top 5 Individual Teammates in the four age categories based on the greatest increased number of steps from week 1 to 8.
- In addition, teams that averaged 10,000 steps a day by week 8 will be entered into a random drawing for a prize.
