Giving to Southwestern Vermont Health Care
Since it was first established by a gift from Henry W. Putnam, the generosity of donors has allowed Southwestern Vermont Health Care to provide high quality health care in a rural setting. Donations allow us to keep current with advances in technology, invest in our facilities, and maintain the margin of excellence our health system provides.

Our Philanthropic History
Two extraordinary donors, Henry W. Putnam and his son, Henry W. Putnam, Jr., gave the funds that launched the hospital we now call Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC). The spirit of philanthropy — gifts large and small — has helped Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC) since the hospital cornerstone was laid in 1916.
SVHC Is a Not-for-Profit
SVHC is a charitable organization. It receives operating funds from patient and insurance payments and from charitable donations. It invests all revenue in excess of costs back into the health system to support capital projects, such as new technology or buildings, and renovations of existing property. These investments sustain and improve the quality of care given throughout our system: Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, Centers for Living & Rehabilitation, Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice, Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center, SVMC Deerfield Valley Campus, and SVMC Northshire Campus.
A volunteer Board of Trustees governs the organization. Trustees serve without pay as a public trust, so that the health system is managed by the community it serves. They ensure that the citizens of Bennington County and the surrounding area receive quality patient care.
Support SVHC - Make Your Gift Today
Every year, more and more residents of our community invest in quality health care close to home.
They do it by making a gift to SVHC. Some are grateful patients. Others simply recognize how important it is to keep a strong health care system in our community.
Outright gifts of cash and appreciated securities benefit SVHC immediately. Planned gifts secure the future and can provide benefits during a donor's lifetime. Please review the ways to give. Contact a member of the development staff if you have questions.
