Comprehensive, Accredited Breast Care at SVMC
The Breast Care Program at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center is unique in Vermont. It provides a comprehensive approach to treating all forms of breast disease, including benign disease and breast cancer.
SVMC's Breast Care Program is accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, administered by the American College of Surgeons. Ours is the only accredited program in Vermont. Read more about our accreditation.
At the center of our coordinated approach is the Breast Health Navigator. A registered nurse, she is there to guide patients through the diagnostic process. The Breast Health Navigator can help explain the results of tests, communicate with doctors, answer questions, and simply be there for the patient through trying times.
Our breast care team is unique in that it is truly multidisciplinary. Each patient receives customized treatment from our team of oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, surgeons, nurses, and support staff. Medical oncologist Dr. Charlene Ives and general surgeon Dr. Elizabeth Warner lead the Breast Care Program.
Women's Imaging Center Digital mammography and ultrasound readings are provided in a warm, friendly atmosphere, to reduce stress and maximize comfort. Read more about our Women's Imaging Center.
Breast Health Navigator Breast disease can be frightening and complex. Our Breast Health Navigator is a registered nurse who helps patients understand their diagnosis and the treatment process. She works closely with our physicians and our patients, facilitating communication between both.
Advanced Medical Imaging Our team of radiologists provide the latest in breast imaging and guided biopsy, from stereotactic biopsies to breast MRIs.
Weekly Tumor Board Every week, the experts in surgery, oncology, radiology, pathology, internal medicine, and primary care sit down to discuss our cancer patients. Every case is thoroughly reviewed and discussed, no matter how simple or complex. This multi-disciplinary “meeting of the minds” results in the best possible treatments for our patients. Read more about cancer treatment at SVMC.
Clinical Trials Our cancer center conducts the same types of clinical trials that occur at larger academic hospitals. That means patients get access to new, potentially beneficial treatments before they are widely available. Read more about clinical trials at SVMC.
Our Breast Care Program Leadership Team includes:
