Complex IMRT treatment delivers more radiation to the cancer and less to nearby healthy tissue.

Radiation Treatment for Cancer

at Southwestern Vermont

Regional Cancer Center

For outstanding radiation therapy, you need technology and expertise. At Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center (SVRCC), we have the technology — a new state-of-the-art linear accelerator, a complete digital radiology system with PET/CT, and MRI fusion capability.

We also have the expertise thanks to a highly trained staff which includes radiation therapists, radiation oncologists, nurses, a physicist, and a dosimetrist.

Dr. Andrew Young, our radiation oncologist,  trained at the MCP-Hahnemann School of Medicine at Drexel University in Philadelphia. Hahnemann hospital's radiation therapy program began in 1969, and it is a clinical trials site for the National Cancer Institute. Dr. Young's advanced training in radiation therapy allows him to deliver complex treatments that preserve healthy tissue while killing cancerous cells.

Image-Guided Prostate Treatment
Using a special technique for placing tiny gold markers in the prostate, Dr. Young can combine CT and MRI images to guide radiation therapy more accurately than ever before.

Advanced Protocol for Breast Cancer
Using more advanced treatment planning, we can treat both the tumor bed and breast tissue at the same time with better results and fewer side effects, such as skin toxicity.

Other sites
The Cancer Center also offers advanced treatments for head and neck, lung, and gynecological cancers.
