Dr. Malcolm Paine Joins SVMC Obstetrics and Gynecology
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BENNINGTON — SVMC Obstetrics and Gynecology welcomes Dr. Malcolm Paine August 1. Of British nationality, Dr. Paine has close ties to Vermont.
“My wife and cousin are from Manchester, Vt.,” said Dr. Paine. “When my wife and I married and talked of where we wanted to settle, we always spoke of living in this area. We moved to the U.K for a while, but always had the intention of returning to Vermont.”
Dr. Paine was also already familiar with the quality of Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC).
“Interestingly,” he added, “my wife’s mother was a patient of Dr. McLellan in Bennington. As I prepared to go to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire for my residency in obstetrics and gynecology, she asked Dr. McClellan if he knew anyone in the Dartmouth area. It just so happened that his daughter, Dr. Themarge Small (now of SVMC Obstetrics and Gynecology), was at Dartmouth doing her own residency in OB/Gyn. We met and have been friends ever since.”
Dr. Paine received his medical degree from the University of Glasgow in Scotland. He underwent residency training in obstetrics and gynecology in London, U.K., and at Dartmouth-Hitchcock.
“I was always drawn to medicine as a profession,” said Dr. Paine. “When I learned more about obstetrics and gynecology in medical school, something clicked for me. I really value knowing I can make a positive difference in someone’s health as an OB/Gyn and that I can work with my patients through many of their life stages. It’s a great mixture of medical care that I really enjoy.”
“When the opportunity arose at SVMC, it seemed like a perfect fit for my professional and personal goals,” said Dr. Paine. “As a bonus, I get to work with Dr. Small, whom I know as a first-rate physician and colleague.”
Dr. Paine also enjoys playing his guitar, preferably acoustic English folk music. “I’ve always enjoyed music and I find playing very relaxing and fun. It’s not a strange occurrence to see me playing at open-mike nights or on my YouTube channel.”
Dr. Paine’s wife, Kristen, is a teacher. They have two children, a son, Josh, who is 10, and a daughter, Georgia, who is six. The family moved to the Bennington area in June.
Dr. Paine will be available to see patients at SVMC Obstetrics and Gynecology in suite 302 of the Medical Office Building at 140 Hospital Drive in Bennington. To make an appointment with him, call (802) 442-9600.
