Internist Joins SVMC Primary Care

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BENNINGTON — Dr. Ralph Liporace has joined Southwestern Vermont Medical Center’s (SVMC) primary care practice. Dr. Liporace is a Hoosick Falls, N.Y., native who is a nationally-recognized researcher.

Since the 1990s, Dr. Liporace has participated in many investigational drug studies, devoting his career to helping high-risk patients with multiple medical diagnoses. Most recently, he has served as a hospitalist at Albany Medical Center in Albany, N.Y.

Dr. Liporace began his business career on a much different path. After getting his Bachelor of Science Degree in marketing management, he served as the vice president and chief operating officer in his family business, Blue Flame Gas Co. Inc., for ten years.

“Although I enjoyed my initial term at Blue Flame,” said Dr. Liporace, “I always wanted to go into medicine. I do feel that some of my business experience crossed over into my medical practice; just as the customer is always right, my first priority as a physician is to always make sure the patient is taken care of.”

Dr. Liporace received his medical degree from Albany Medical College in Albany, N.Y., and completed his residency in internal medicine at Albany Medical Center, where he was chief medical resident. He is a diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners,  and is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

“My greatest satisfaction in my medical career comes from knowing that I’ve been able to help patients be comfortable, both physically and emotionally,” said Dr. Liporace. “You need a good sense of empathy to truly be a good physician.”

Dr. Liporace has also served as an assistant professor of medicine and an emergency physician and ran his own internal medicine practice. From 2006 to 2008, he served on the board of trustees for Southwestern Vermont Health Care, SVMC’s parent company. Since 1999, he has continued to play a role in his family business as chairman and chief executive officer for Blue Flame Gas.

“I enjoyed growing up in Hoosick Falls and raised my family there,” he added. “And I’m happy to come to SVMC, which is truly a gem of a hospital.”

Dr. Liporace now enjoys traveling when possible and spending time with the families of his three grown children, Julia, Andrew, and Jennie. He has two granddaughters, four-year-old Emilia, two-year-old Sienna, and a step-grandson, Nathaniel, who is 10.

Dr. Liporace will be available to see patients at SVMC Primary Care in the Medical Office Building at 140 Hospital Dr. in Bennington, Suite 216. To make an appointment with him, call (802) 447-5519.
