SVMC Welcomes Dr. Marian A. Madden
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BENNINGTON — As a hospitalist, Dr. Marian A. Madden is an internist who specializes in caring for people while they’re in the hospital. She enjoys working in a mutually respectful environment where medical and clinical staffs come together to offer their patients the best in medical care. Coming back to the medical staff of Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC) seemed like the perfect choice at this stage of her career.
“I am excited to join the hospitalist staff at SVMC,” said Dr. Madden. “I love the connection the hospital has to the community and the connections the physicians in Bennington are able to build with their patients.”
Dr. Madden received her medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and completed her residency at the Presbyterian University Hospital and Oakland Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Pittsburgh, Penn. She is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and also has a master’s degree in biology from the State University of New York at Binghamton.
After her residency, Dr. Madden worked as an internist in Arizona before coming to the Bennington area. Dr. Madden had practices in Williamstown, Mass., and Bennington before working as a hospitalist at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, Mass., and then at North Adams Regional Hospital in North Adams, Mass.
“I’ve always loved the pleasures of living in a small-town area such as Bennington,” said Dr. Madden. “The relationships you form with friends, neighbors, and patients are the very fabric that binds the community together.”
“As a hospitalist, I can concentrate on those who are in immediate need of medical care,” she stated. “You need to be a quick study of a patient and knowledgeable about the most up-to-date approaches for medical care.
“You then problem-solve with your colleagues to recommend the best course of action for your patient. Those types of investigative discussions and supportive relationships are some of the main reasons I was attracted to medicine in the first place.”
Dr. Madden is also an avid gardener. She lives in Williamstown, Mass., with her husband, Bill, and her two teen-aged children, Andrew and Helen.
SVMC is part of Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC), an integrated health system providing care for patients in Bennington and Windham Counties in Vermont, Rensselaer and Washington Counties in New York, and Berkshire County in Massachusetts. SVHC includes Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, the VNA & Hospice of SVHC, the Centers for Living & Rehabilitation, and the SVMC Northshire and Deerfield Valley Campuses.
