BENNINGTON — Working with people to keep them healthy throughout their adult life was a real draw to primary care medicine for Dr. Kim Fodor. An internist, Dr. Fodor joined Southwestern Vermont Medical Center’s (SVMC) Internal Medicine on October 31.

“I always enjoyed science when I was younger,” said Dr. Fodor, “and medicine was a good fit for my interests and skills. I was attracted to the fact that internists can form long-term relationships with their patients. I think it is necessary for patient and physician to work together to encourage good healthy habits.”

Dr. Fodor received her medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., after attending the University of Vermont (UVM) for her bachelor of science degree. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Il., and is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Originally from Long Island, N.Y., Dr. Fodor longed to return to the east coast and more, specifically, to Vermont after being in the midwest.

“I fell in love with Vermont when I used to visit Okemo while growing up,” she stated. “I worked in Cincinnati, Ohio, after my residency while my husband finished his residency in radiology. We really wanted to return to Vermont.”

After working as an internist with Queen City Physicians in Cincinnati, Dr. Fodor did return to Vermont and was employed as a hospitalist at Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin and most recently as an internist and assistant professor at Fletcher Allen Health Care and UVM.
“My husband accepted a position at SVMC and raved about the physicians and nursing staff members,” she added. “He really admires how the setting is more intimate while still offering high-quality care. After working in a smaller hospital and then Fletcher Allen, I knew this type of medical setting was the best fit for me as well.

“I love the atmosphere in the Bennington community and how people are more in tune with the environment in this part of the country,” she said. “This area fits our values very well.”
Together, Dr. Fodor and her husband, Dr. Daniel Fodor, enjoy cross-country and downhill skiing and hiking with their two golden retrievers. She also enjoys visiting her sister who lives in Shelburne, Vt.

Dr. Fodor has a special interest in preventive medicine. To make an appointment with her, call (802) 447-5519.
