BENNINGTON — Get ready for the coming of spring with a new event that will take the chill off of a late winter’s evening. On March 19, Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC) will present Heart and Soul, a fundraiser for the hospital’s cardiology services. The event, to be held at the Equinox Resort in Manchester, will feature fine wines, outstanding hors d’oeuvres and light dinner fare, and dancing to the sound of one of Bennington’s best bands, The Prescription.
“We are excited to announce Heart and Soul to our community,” said Dr. Scott Rogge. Dr. Rogge, along with Dr. Steven Anisman, and nurse practitioners Jenn Thuermer and Alison Malmborg, make up Bennington Cardiology and practice at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.
"Heart and Soul is an opportunity for people to have a wonderful evening and raise funds to help SVMC continue to offer the best in cardiac care," Rogge added. “SVMC delivers the highest quality care for cardiac patients from the onset of disease through their recovery. Our award winning Emergency Department works closely with cardiologists to ensure patients can be stabilized and swiftly transferred to an academic hospital if necessary. Our Intensive Care unit offers up-to-date technology for patients who are able to remain at SVMC, and our cardiac rehab program is a leader in helping people regain strength after a cardiac event.”
The event includes a one-hour wine tasting from Ascentia Wine Estates, which brings together award-winning labels from California, Washington and the Snake River Valley in Idaho. Its wide variety of vintners includes Atlas Peak, Gary Farrell, Gyser Peak, and Columbia Winery. The evening also will feature a silent auction and a custom designed signature cocktail and a special commemorative glass donated by Catamount Glass.
Bennington’s own band The Prescription, featuring local physician Peter King, will provide dance music. The members of The Prescription will be joined by The Side Effect Horns to round out the rock and roll sound to full dance band complement. The evening also will include special guest musicians, such as Dr. Steven Anisman on drums.
Co-chairs of the event are Patty Ryan, Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurse Coordinator and Jenn Thuermer, Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in Cardiology. The Bennington Banner is a sponsor and media partner. Three additional sponsorship levels are available, ranging from $2500 to $500. Tickets for the event, including the one-hour wine tasting, are $85 per person and are on sale now.
