BENNINGTON — HealthStream Research has recognized Southwestern Vermont Medical Center with its Excellence through Insight award for Highest Community Perception of Quality. The award recognizes SVMC as a hospital at the top of its class for perception of quality of care.
SVMC is one of four rural hospitals to earn the award for overall quality scores in their primary service areas. SVMC’s overall quality score increased from 3.9 in 2002 to 4.0 in 2006 and 4.07 in 2007. The scores, on a five-point scale, are reported by HealthStream. They are based on telephone surveys that HealthStream conducts with more than 500 consumers in SVMC’s service area.
“Knowing that the residents of the communities we serve hold us in such high esteem is very rewarding,” said Harvey M. Yorke, SVMC president and CEO. “This award is a tribute to every employee at the hospital. In rating our hospital so highly, community members are recognizing the commitment to quality and patient satisfaction that our employees demonstrate day in and day out.”
J. Edward Pearson, president of HealthStream Research, commented on this in his award letter.
“Your dedication to providing the highest standards not only benefits your hospital, but the way healthcare is perceived and valued by your community,” Pearson wrote.
HealthStream’s consumer research found that consumers who recall SVMC’s advertising and/or read its community newsletter, Wellness Connection, rate the hospital higher than consumers unfamiliar with the ads or newsletter. The award will be presented at a ceremony at the HealthStream Summit in Nashville, Tenn., in September.
Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, a community hospital, is one of only 289 hospitals in the world recognized by the American Nurses Association as “A Magnet Hospital for Nursing Excellence.” SVMC is part of Southwestern Vermont Health Care, a community-based, not-for-profit health system that exists solely for the benefit of the communities it serves.
