BENNINGTON — Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice of Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC) has been named one of the Top 500 agencies on the 2007 HomeCare Elite list. The list is a compilation of the most successful Medicare-certified home health care providers in the United States.

The annual review identifies the Top 500 agencies, ranked by an analysis of performance measures in quality outcomes, quality improvement, and financial performance. The 2007 HomeCare Elite also identifies providers in the Top 25 percent and Top 100 of providers nationwide. Publicly available data is used to compile the analysis.

VNA & Hospice of SVHC improved its performance from 2006 to 2007 to earn Top 500 designation. It was a Top 25 percent agency on the inaugural HomeCare Elite list in 2006. There are more than 7,000 Medicare-certified home health agencies in the United States.

Julia Maroney, RN, MSHA, CHCE, executive director of VNA & Hospice, said improving from the Top 25 percent of agencies nationwide to being in the Top 500 is a tribute to the commitment of the agency’s 75 employees.

Being named a Top 500 agency shows that our work over the last year has made us a better quality and stronger agency than we were before,” Maroney said. “Recognition as one of the best in the nation is attained only through cooperation and communication among staff members.”

"Everyone here at VNA & Hospice of SVHC plays a valuable role in serving our patients. We could not have achieved Top 500 recognition without contributions from each and every employee,” Maroney said.

Harvey M. Yorke, president of Southwestern Vermont Health Care, said the VNA employees’ accomplishment demonstrates the hard work they do to continually improve the agency’s quality and efficiency.

OCS, Inc., and DecisionHealth publish the HomeCare Elite list of top-tier home health agencies. OCS is a health care quality information company that has honored SVHC before for post-acute care. DecisionHealth publishes the home care independent newsletter …home health line. The 2007 HomeCare Elite is the only performance recognition of its kind in the home health industry. The list of all 2007 HomeCare Elite agencies is available at www.ocsys.com.
