Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC), the parent company of Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, has purchased Mountain Sports Medicine, located at the base of the Mt. Snow ski resort. SVHC purchased the building, equipment, and a land use agreement with Mt. Snow from Dr. Harry Haroutunian.

SVHC CEO Harvey Yorke described the purchase as: "An opportunity to further cement our health system's presence in and commitment to the Deerfield Valley Community." SVHC operates the former Deerfield Valley Health Center as a department of the hospital as Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, Deerfield Valley Campus. SVHC purchased the health center in 1997, when health center trustees recognized a need to find help to recruit doctors and make needed improvements to the building.

A for-profit subsidiary of SVHC, SVHC Enterprises, Inc., will operate the mountain clinic, which will do business as Base Camp RapidCare. The clinic will primarily service resort visitors' injuries and illnesses. It will operate during the snow season as well as during other events that draw large numbers of people participating in activities that are likely to result in the need for medical care, such as a mountain bike race.Base Camp RapidCare will be open for the upcoming USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championship, July 17-22.

Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC) is a charitable, not-for-profit health system, consisting of Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation, and Southwestern Vermont Health Care VNA & Hospice. Governed by a volunteer board of directors, SVHC exists solely for the benefit of the communities it serves.
