SVHC Adds New Orthopedic Surgeon to Medical Staff
Dr. Deborah Henley relocates from Staten Island University Hospital
The Medical Staff at Southwestern Vermont Health Care welcomes a new expert in orthopedic surgery. Dr. Deborah Henley is an experienced orthopedic surgeon from Staten Island University Hospital. She is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Deborah Henley, MD
"We are pleased that a surgeon of Dr. Henley's caliber has chosen to join SVHC," said Dr. Mark Novotny, chief medical officer. "She will help ease a longstanding shortage of orthopedists in Bennington County."
Henley comes to SVHC with extensive experience in orthopedic surgery. For the past nine years, she practiced at Staten Island University Hospital, a 785-bed teaching hospital. Prior to that, she completed a fellowship in foot and ankle reconstruction at New York University's Hospital for Joint Diseases in Manhattan. Henley graduated from her residency program in orthopedic surgery at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, which is affiliated with the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She received her medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical School in Syracuse, N.Y.
In addition to general orthopedic care, Henley also specializes in complex foot and ankle problems, trauma, diabetic foot problems, rheumatoid arthritis of the foot and ankle and sports and dance injuries. She was a volunteer member of the medical staff for the New York City Marathon. In her spare time, Henley enjoys yoga, running and swimming.
The lure of enjoying a close-knit community is one reason Henley decided to come to Bennington. She also has connections here: Her husband, Tom Deck, has led the Fly Fishing and Wing Shooting schools at Orvis. The strains of city life and the birth of a son led Henley and her husband to seek out a medical community that "was more personal," she explained. "This community offers me chance to give better patient care. I expect to be able to spend more time with my patients."
Henley's practice will be part of Taconic Orthopaedics, 332 Dewey Street, Bennington. She will also have office hours at SVMC's, Northshire Campus (formerly the Northshire Medical Center). Appointments can be made by calling 442-6314.
