BENNINGTON, VT—July 28, 2016— Southwestern Vermont Medical Center earned four out of a possible five stars under Medicare’s new star rating system. The system evaluates 64 measures of safety and performance—death rates, readmissions, safety indicators, and patient satisfaction scores, for instance—to assign a star rating to each hospital. The aim is to provide more transparency to healthcare consumers by allowing them to compare hospitals. Healthcare consumers interested in reviewing ratings may visit medicare.gov/hospitalcompare.
