BENNINGTON—March 10, 2015—Pregnant women in north of Arlington, Vt. and nearby New York are finding it easier to get to their prenatal appointments. Dr. Malcolm Paine is now seeing obstetrics patients at SVMC’s Northshire Campus in Manchester Center, Vt.
“Prenatal visits are so important for both moms-to-be and their babies. This change allows women who want to deliver at SVMC to travel a lot less to make their appointments,” Paine said.
As early as two years ago, the practice located at 140 Hospital Drive in Bennington noted an increase in patients traveling from as far as Danby and Rupert, both in Vermont. At that point, the practice began work shorten the distance patients needed to travel.
First, the practice needed to make space. The recent addition of seven exam rooms at Northshire Campus has enabled more providers to work in the practice.
Julie Hunter, Northshire Campus practice manager, appreciates the opportunity to provide care to pregnant patients.
“Our providers do see women and children for their routine care, and having Dr. Paine to provide obstetrical services fills a valuable niche,” said Hunter. “Now we can be a part of these young families’ health care from the very beginning.”
Paine has all of the equipment and resources he needs to provide the same prenatal care in Manchester as he does in Bennington. A non-stress test machine, for instance, allows Paine to monitor both moms and babies. The prenatal testing that moms need is available at Northshire, too.
“It’s always our goal to make it easy for patients to get the recommended care. It seems to be working very well so far,” Paine said. “I am surprised by the number of patients we have been able to help in this way. They seem to be appreciative of it.”
The Northshire Campus is located at 5957 Main Street, Route 7A, in Manchester Center. Those interested in making a prenatal appointment should call the Bennington office at (802) 442-9600 to schedule.
