Find a Doctor News Hospital Report Card Careers

It's been such a long time since I've written in my blog.  There have been many changes here at SVMC.  These changes affect many people in good and bad ways.  One change that was very sad to me was the loss of our diabetes education department and our outpatient nutrition program.  There are many people asking why this happened and what are we going to do about educating our community in regards to healthy nutrition and diabetes.

Change is not easy, and it's going to take time to get the 'kinks' worked out.  However, a plan is underway to offer diabetes classes for people in the community.  These classes will be taught by me (a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator) and will be offered each month.  The classes will be a series of two classes on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month starting in July.

I will be facilitating a discussion about diabetes, the causes, treatments, and nutrition for this disease using a great tool called conversation maps.  Of course, we can never replace the one on one guidance that you would get from our outpatient program, but these classes are going to be a great addition to our educational offerings.
