An Amazing Tri
I've said again and again that you can do anything you set your mind to. This weekend I raced in an event that demonstrated this.
This year, I have started racing in triathlons. Yesterday, I raced in a tri in Webster, Mass with 3 other women from Bennington/Manchester. This triathlon was sponsored by Danskin and raised money for breast cancer. Approximately 3000 women raced in this event!!
This event was absolutely amazing. (I guess I feel that way about most events) What made this race truly amazing were the people in it. When I used to think of triathlons, what I would envision were perfect looking women on million dollar bikes who have no job and nothing to do but train.
This tri was so different than my perceptions. This triathlon was the perfect introduction to tris. Women of all shapes and sizes entered this event. Bikes ranged from the most expensive triathlon bikes to mountain bikes-with knobby tires!
I learned one thing from competing in tris----my perceptions of triathlons were so off the mark!
Not only was it a great day, but I came in the top 15% out of approximately 3000 women! I can't wait for the next one.
I also want to congratulate Julie Inman, Suzanne Lees, and Lynn Grieger who also represented southwestern Vermont!!!!
