Resolving to Exercise
It’s soon to be the new year and a lot of people will be hitting the gym with a renewed desire to get in shape. Unfortunately, when people decide to dive into exercise, a whole host of orthopedic problems can arise.
A lot of problems involve the foot – conditions such as heel pain, pinched nerves and achilles tendon pain are come of the common ones. Heel pain can be caused by plantarfasciitis which is an inflammation of the fascia that forms the arch of the foot. This can be avoided or minimized by wearing shoes that support the arch and cushion the heel. Sometimes orthotics can help.
Pinched nerves can occur if you wear shoes which are too small. Make sure the shoes you wear fit you properly, in the correct length and width. Achilles tendon pain can be caused by too much intensity in your workout. Instead of going from couch potato to world class athlete, try easing into an exercise routine.
Foot pain does not have to ruin your plans to exercise. But, if you do get persistent foot pain make sure you see your doctor.
