Welcome to My Blog

This is my first blog. Never done this before, but I have never been lacking when it comes to talking. I am a physical therapist and strength and conditioning specialist. I see clients every day who are having various problems with walking, working, sports, etc. My goal is to return these people to their original level of function. I also see clients every day as a strength and conditioning specialist. My goal with these people is to maximize their performance. We have a really good thing going here at SVMC –excellent physical therapists and physical therapist assistants whose job it is to help people function better. You will surely meet them at some point.

I’m not really sure how I got into this – I graduated from Penn State almost 20 years ago with a degree in Political Science. I was supposed to be a navigator in the Air Force, but that was put on hold. I spent the next several years in business, but just wasn’t happy. One day, after many endless hours sitting in front of a computer, I had had enough! It was time to make a change. Let’s see - I liked sports, I had several stints as a physical therapy patient (rugby is a rough sport), and I liked people. So started the journey to my current profession. Luckily, I had an understanding and supportive wife. After 3 years at the University of Delaware (go Blue Hens), I landed here at SVMC as a PT.

So here I am, an outpatient physical therapist who specializes in sports injuries, a strength and conditioning coach, who loves to train aspiring athletes, a father times 2, a rabid Penn State football fan, a grateful husband, an obsessed fly fisherman, a similarly obsessed deer hunter, and generally, a person who does not want life to pass him by.

Through this blog, I want to tell you a little about what it is like to practice in this profession, to work at one of the most progressive small hospitals around, and keep you updated in the strength and conditioning field.

I might even comment on my favorite teams once in a while – that would be Penn State, the Steelers, the Giants, the Yankees (easy, this is a tough year), Cambridge Central, and Mount Anthony. Don’t worry, I won’t forget about Hoosick Falls, Arlington, Burr and Burton, or any other area schools.

Got a question about physical therapy? Ask it. Wondering how to get better at your game? I probably have an answer. Have a nagging injury? Contact me. Wondering what may be a realistic fountain of youth? I may have an answer (hint: it involves stretching and flexibility). Have any news on a local athlete? Post it. You ever ask that Magic 8 ball questions? I can give you as good an answer. So ends my very first blog. Keep in touch.

Hey there fellow blogger, I hope we get some attention out there in the world or even our own system. Nice to share this 'space' with you. So you probably saw my aging runner blog. Now I'm being annoyed by that ever so common ailment- low back pain. A funky tweak while removing something from my trunk. So I read in my Annals of Internal Medicine that gradual exercise (under a PT supervision or education), not going to bed, and maybe accupuncture or massage. Any other great ideas? I'm already back to my floor stretches each morning, but can't manage the yoga.
