Getting Old

So the Yanks played the Sox last weekend. But the big news is…Roger Clemens has a "fatigued groin." Now, I am a physical therapist, I have had and have seen my share of sports injuries, but I have never heard of a "fatigued groin." Is it a groin pull, a tear or what? Please tell us. What I can tell you is this – if it is a groin strain (pull), the Yankees savior and the Yankees may be in trouble. The problem is, for Clemens, his hips and lower body are his pitching life. The man is a physical anomaly – 40 something years old and still able to bring it. Why can he still bring it? Core and hip strength. The ability to harness rotational strength and direct it toward a target. A few  years ago, I think it was his last year with the Yankees, he had a hamstring problem which resulted in decreased velocity and difficulty placing the ball.  Took a while to recover. All I know is this – it will take a miracle, along the same lines as what happened in 1978 for the Yankees to catch the Red Sox. If Clemens is not effective, forget it. Meanwhile, if he comes up, the Yanks will pay him around 1 million dollars per start. What’s he going to give in return? Should be interesting. Only 3 months ‘til college football starts. Go Penn State.
