Charity Care at SVHC

From its very beginning, SVHC has provided care for community members regardless of their ability to pay. Even today, SVHC has generous policies for providing free care or reduced-cost care to those who need it.

Vermont offers several options to help people get health insurance coverage. These include Medicaid, Dr. Dynasaur, VHAP, Catamount Health, and VHAP-Pharmacy. Together, these programs are called Green Mountain Care. Each program has different eligibilty, but Vermonters with incomes up to 300 % of the federal poverty level can qualify. To learn more about these programs go to www.greenmountaincare.org or call 1-800-250-8427. The state also offers help with prescription drugs through the Attorney General's Prescription Drug Finder.

New York has programs including Child Health Plus, Family Health Plus, Medicaid and Healthy NY.  More information can be found at the New York State Department of Health.

SVHC Free Care Policy

The policy extends to anyone who earns less than 200 percent of the federal poverty guidelines, has no medical insurance, and limited personal assets. Even when someone does not qualify for charity care, SVHC works with people of limited means to help them with their medical bills.

In fiscal year 2011, SVHC provided $2,912,000 in charity care.
